The Interactive online workshop “Remember the past – React for the future”, is part of the project “Remember Holocaust – Building Bridges for a common future”, focusing on the remembrance of the Jews Holocaust, aims to foster the understanding of the past while strengthening the dialogue about the future of the European Union.
The main aim of the workshop is to draw participants’ attention to the paradigm of Holocaust, how the Nazi-fascist crimes were rooted in that ideology, and how its debris still affects people towards stereotypes, prejudices and xenophobia. During the workshop, the participants will explore forms of racist propaganda and its consequences, as in the case of the rise of far-right regimes. The participants, through this activity, will also reflect on the practices that empower the values of dignity, freedom, diversity and inclusion: the common values of the Union’s member states as stated in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.
The workshop will consist of 2 sessions, around 1,15 minutes each:
The first session will be dedicated to introducing the participants to the project and the workshop, as well as to get to know each other through an activity of sharing personal preferences (which movie or tv-series is important to you?). Furthermore, the session will also introduce the work on stereotypes and prejudices using propaganda materials from the 2nd WW as well as racist propaganda from recent years. How is it possible for an image to convey a hate message? Can we recognize racism in new forms of communication such as memes?
The second session will focus on how (if) participants observe racism in their contexts, and will offer a space to share and reflect on what can be done to reduce it and move towards a more inclusive society based on respect for human rights.
All tools and methods used during the workshop are based on the non-formal learning and the learning-by-doing methodology: ice-breaking games, energizers, educational games, quizzes etc.
