The Institute of Research and Training on European Affairs-I.R.T.E.A on the grounds of the European Programme ERASMUS+ for Youth, implemented the KA1 Youth Exchange ,“Life in Plastic is NOT Fantastic”.
The project took place at the City of Chania ,which is located at the Island of Crete, from the 13th of October 2019 until the 19th of October 2019. During the project 44 young people from Greece, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Romania and Cyprus had the chance to be educated, through informal training, on the main issue of the usage of plastic in our day to day life.
The project was divided in to parts, the preliminary and the creative part.
During the preliminary part, the participants, through informal training and with the guidance of the trainers, had the chance to be introduced to of what plastic is, the initiatives and laws being implemented by the European Union and the current situation across Europe.
In the continuation of the preliminary part, the participants were introduced in the concept of Shock Advertising and h
ow the trending usage of Social Media, can be utilized in order to promote a life with less plastic. Lastly, a structured dialogue took part, where the main topic was the exchange of good practices between the participants.
During the second stage, the participants, had the chance to utilize what they learned and created an awareness campaign on the grounds of shock advertising. Their campaign was then implemented through social media. Also, taking in to consideration of how big companies have an impact, the participants had the chance to draft a business plan, which can help companies to reduce the usage of plastic. Finally, a comics workshop took place, where the participants had the chance to create comic strips about the impact of plastic in our day to day life.
