EU funded Project “Europa Simulation – Training Europeans Enhancing Solidarity – EUropa.S T.E.EN.S.”

The Institute of Research & Training on European Affairs –I.R.T.E.A., implements the Project “Europa Simulation – Training Europeans Enhancing Solidarity – EUropa.S T.E.EN.S.” funded by the ERASMUS+ Youth Programme of the European Union. The Project will be locally implemented in the Municipalities of Athens, Aspropyrgos, Nafplio, Heraklion, Chios, and Livadia, during the school year 2018-2019, with the participation of 40 high school students from each Municipality. The Project concerns the implementation of a Simulation of the European Parliament Game in each of the previously mentioned Municipalities, as well as a Structured Dialogue in Athens, with participants 5 students from each Municipality.

The Project is approved from the Ministry of Education, Research & Religious Affairs with Protocol Number: Φ15.1/163116/Δ2 and is implemented with the support of the participating Municipalities.

The topic of the plenary session is “European elections 2019: democracy, active citizenship and the role of the European citizen in politics”.

This extracurricular project enhances the dialogue between the participants, who set aside their student identity and step in the shoes of the Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and debate on the function of the European Union and Euroscepticism, in the framework of the upcoming European elections, while expressing their point of view and ideas.

EUropa.S. TE.EN.S. is a “role play” game based on non-formal education, that aims to introduce the participants to the function of the European Union, the European politics and debating, while, at the same time, enhances their skills and critical thinking.

The aim of the Project is the expansion of the students’ knowledge about the European Union, the function of the European Institutions, the decision-making process, as well as the empowerment of the European identity.
I.R.T.E.A. is responsible for the preparation of the students in order to participate at the Simulation Game, by implementing two preparatory meetings, one with the teachers and one with the students of the participating schools of each Municipality.

It is noted that the travel expenses, the distributed material, as well as the coffee breaks and lunch breaks in the framework of the preparation and the implementation of the Project are fully covered.
